Wrote a damn good essay and had above average SAT scores. :]

(For CS, IT, and SE only) They absolutly love having certification in cisco networking, A+ computer repair, other similar classes. If your high school offers this take it, pass it, and make sure to include it in your essay. Also take AP computer science (programming), they love it and it will knock off some courses for you. If you are IT try and take AP stats, CS and SE go for AP Calc. In addition to all this you need to prove you can work with computers, if you can program in any language, make web sites, build computers, tell them in the essay. It might not be exactly what your major is about but it shows you have interest and arent some random person that plays video games all day and thinks he can make them.

I got in, with cruddy SAT scores and mediocore math grades. But I did mention I scored in the like 96% percentile on the grammar section [ hard to beleive eh?] Anyhoo. I wrote a very honest please accept me letter. It talked about things I had done in the past that involved my major [robotics club, braking stuff to see what makes it tick, buildings various, well call them , ballistics] anyways. My essay showed I had a drive and passion to learn my major. I think ultimately that passion is what got me in. Definitely not my grades !

When I applied, I forgot to even send in my essay. Basically, just be honest on your application and make sure you have good recommendations. It isn't as competitive or tough as I thought it would be, but that doesn't mean not to try hard. And Financial Aid is very good here, or so I think. I was given nearly half of my Tuition/Room/Board solely from need-based Financial Aid. If I had tried harder in high school I could have actually gotten some scholarships based on my academics too. Maybe next year I will work on that one, but you should work on it now.
